Speaking at an exchange meeting with journalists from the Chattogram Division held in the conference room of the Chattogram Deputy Commissioner’s Office on Sunday (5 January), Media Reform Commission Chairman Kamal Ahmed said that political partisanship in journalism must end.
Kamal Ahmed expressed support for providing compensation to journalists who suffered political discrimination. He stated that discrimination in policy decisions and state actions has affected many individuals and journalists, and the issue of compensation deserves serious consideration.
He also said that journalists who became victims of politically motivated harassment cases, spent time in prison, or were unable to continue their professional work should receive justice. The withdrawal of such cases should be considered on a priority basis, and appropriate compensation should be provided to those who have suffered losses.
The Commission Chairman emphasized that journalism must remain independent, professional, and free from political influence. He noted that media reform should focus on protecting press freedom, ensuring professional standards, and creating a fair working environment for journalists across Bangladesh.
