Tension has risen again along the Chouka border in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj. The situation developed on Saturday afternoon in the area between Chouka and Kiranganj BGB border outposts under Binodpur union.

Since noon, citizens of both Bangladesh and India have gathered near the border and staged demonstrations. Three Bangladeshis were reportedly injured in attacks by Indian nationals.
Earlier, tension had continued for several days over the construction of a barbed-wire fence by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) at Sukdebpur across the Chouka border. At that time, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and BSF held a flag meeting at battalion commander level.

Local residents said they went to harvest wheat on land inside Bangladesh near the zero line at noon. Indian nationals then allegedly entered the area and cut down several mango trees inside Bangladesh. This led to chases and counter-chases between citizens of the two countries. Several Bangladeshis were injured by sickle attacks and stones thrown by Indian nationals.
