BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman was the “mastermind” of the movement to oust the government, said BNP Joint Secretary General Khairul Kabir Khokon. He made the comment on Saturday afternoon at the Narsingdi district BNP office during a blanket distribution programme marking the birth anniversary of Ziaur Rahman.
Khokon said the anti-discrimination student movement activists did not initially launch a movement to topple the government; they started with the quota reform movement. They moved to a one-point demand on August 3. BNP, however, had already been in a one-point movement to remove the government. Therefore, he said, Tarique Rahman was the mastermind of the movement and was a visible organiser, not someone working behind the scenes.
