Sarjis Alam, chief organizer of the National Citizen Committee and general secretary of the July Shaheed Smriti Foundation, said, “We believe that the aspiration created by such a major uprising, so much bloodshed and so many lives cannot be limited to only an election. We certainly believe that power should be transferred to people’s representatives through a fair election as soon as possible. But it is completely unrealistic and impossible to update a new voter list, reform the Election Commission, reform the judiciary, and bring law enforcement agencies back to their proper role within six months.”
He made the remarks on Friday afternoon while responding to questions from journalists after distributing blankets among cold-hit people at the Maqboolar Rahman Government College field in Panchagarh.
