A recent survey says that 65 percent of people in the country want local government elections before the next national parliamentary election. However, BNP and several other political parties want the national election to be held first. The parties believe that the national priority at this moment is to hold the parliamentary election. Ordinary people, who are being deprived of civic services in the absence of local government representatives, may want local government elections first, but the parties say this position is not realistic at this time.

However, the National Citizens’ Committee and several other organizations and parties are in favor of holding local government elections under the interim government before the national election. They consider the findings of the BBS survey to be reasonable.
