HPA seeks info on those who visited Gulf Food Expo

MALDIVES- The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has requested any persons who attended the Gulf Food Expo held in Dubai this February to notify the authority.

Speaking at a press briefing held by the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) on Monday night, Dr. Ibrahim Afzal said HPA wishes for those who attended the Dubai Gulf Food Expo between February 16 and 20 to report the information to the authority.

“We wish to collect information on those who attended the expo and returned to Maldives. It is not necessarily linked to the current positive cases, but we have noticed some anomalies linked to these cases. Therefore, we wish to study it further,” said Dr. Afzal.

Dr. Afzal said although individuals who visited the expo may no longer have the virus in their system, there is a chance that the persons may have been infected with the virus at the festival. He assured that those who report attendance will not be isolated.

The Maldives have recorded 228 positive cases of COVID-19, out of which 218 cases are local transmissions within Male’ and the atolls.
